Whole Life Cost Forum
Sarnafil Ltd are Founder Members of the Whole Life Cost Forum (WLCF). The organisation was formed in 1999 by a cross section of construction industry representatives interested in evaluating product and building performance on the basis of cost in use, rather than lowest initial procurement cost. The remit of the WLCF was to develop a set of definitions and methodologies that could be accepted by the construction industry as a whole, creating a degree of certainty when talking about WLC and enabling WLC quotations to be compared on an ‘apples with apples’ basis.

The outcome is the WLCF Whole Life Cost Comparator Tool, which is available on the Internet. This tool utilises methodologies that do not use weightings, which enables the user to compare options on a like-for-like basis, while enabling benchmarking with other projects. This is something that other methodologies do not generally allow.

The WLCF is an organisation that is financially supported by its members, including property clients, property owners/operators, construction consultants, contractors, PFI contractors, suppliers and material manufacturers. The organisation has not received any financial support from the Government, although several Government departments are currently members.
