Sealant - Sarnaplast

The use of sealant to provide a waterproof detail is widespread within the construction industry.  Unfortunately, all too often the compatibility of the sealant with the products it is going to come into contact with is not checked, resulting in product failure or guarantee exclusions.

To help ensure that a suitable sealant is always used with Sarnafil membranes, Sarnafil Ltd provide a range of compatible sealant that, when used in conjunction with the appropriate Sarnafil Primer, will adhere to the Sarnafil membrane creating an effective long-term waterproof seal.

As with all sealant, Sarnafil sealant has a limited life onsite and when left exposed, should be replaced roughly every 10 years.

Sarnaplast 2235 Sarnaplast 2235
Sarnaplast 2235 is the only mastic recommended for general mastic seals used in conjunction with Sarnafil roofing systems.  An elastic single component silicone sealant that dries semi-transparent and soft, Sarnaplast 2235 should only be applied to a surface that is suitably prepared and primed with either Primer 110 (Sarnafil G/S) or Primer 501 (Sarnafil TG/TS).  Once installed, Sarnaplast 2235 can be smoothed using a gloved hand and water.

Sarnaplast 2005 Sarnaplast 2005
Sarnaplast 2005 is an elastic multi-component silicone sealant, developed to seal around difficult-to-flash penetrations, such as "Pitch Pockets" (where Sarnaplast 2235 is not suitable for application).

Once a suitable permanent upstand has been formed, it is filled with firmly tamped soft, dry sand, to provide a stable base for the Sarnaplast 2005.  The finished tamped sand level should be approximately 10mm below the lip of the upstand.  All junctions to Sarnafil flashings and penetrations are then suitably prepared and primed using Primer 110 (Sarnafil G/S) or Primer 501 (Sarnafil TG/TS).  The Sarnaplast 2005 is then applied evenly, using constant pressure on the mastic frame trigger.  If required, the surface of the Sarnaplast 2005 can be smoothed using a gloved hand and water.  Once installed, Sarnaplast 2005 provides a slow curing, but immediately water resistant, seal around the detail.
