Decking

Single layer waterproofing membranes should only be laid over a continuous substrate that provides full support.  This can be either the roof decking itself, or a layer of thermal insulation applied over the roof deck.

This section defines the types of structural roof deck generally available in the context of new roof construction, where the designer or roofing contractor is responsible for selection.

Guidance on some of the materials used to form roof decks can be found in Clause 6 of BS6229 : 1982, which classifies structural decks as either a panel or sheet (pre-formed, supplied and fixed), cast in-situ or existing (refurbishment).
