Roofing Approvals
There are currently no British Standard for single ply roofing systems, leaving the specifier with independent product certification as the only means of meeting the requirements of the Building Regulations.
To ensure that our clients can assess all Sarnafil membranes, the British Board of Agrément Certification covers all roofing membranes.
However, as Sarnafil membranes are sold worldwide they have been tested to, and surpassed, the requirements of a great number of standards. These include Swiss SIA tests, German DIN tests and American Factory Mutual tests.
Some of the toughest tests are the Swiss SIA tests for UV ageing. SIA 280 requires exposure to 5,000 hours of UV testing without the membrane showing surface crazing under a microscope. While this is a tough test in itself, Sarnafil requires all its membranes to withstand 10,000 hours of UV without surface crazing.
In the USA, white Sarnafil membranes are part of the Energy Smart programme. In Germany, many of our membranes have passed the stringent FLL testing, for membranes used in green roof applications. Here a 1m x 1m x 1m box is lined with the test membrane, prior to being filled with growing medium and aggressive root plants such as Rhizomes. If the membrane and its joints survive the 2 year test period, they pass this tough test.
Of course, Sarnafil’s manufacturing facility in Sarnen Switzerland is ISO 14001 and ISO 9000:2000 registered and Sarnafil Ltd are ISO 9000:2000 registered in the UK.
